AGENDA ITEM NO. 8a
MEETING DATE: February 5, 2019
TO: City Council
council@ci.tumwater.wa.us
FROM: John Doan, City Administrator
jdoan@cl.tumwater.wa.us
SUBJECT: Thurston County Economic Development Council Service Provider
Agreement Renewal
1) Attachments:
A. Second Amendment to Service Provider Agreement for Economic
Development Services
B. First Amendment to Service Provider Agreement for Economic
Development Services
C. City of Tumwater Service Provider Agreement Economic Development
Services
2) Recommended Action:
Authorize the Mayor to sign the Second Amendment to Service Provider
Agreement with Thurston Economic Development Council (EDC) for certain
economic development initiatives and services through 2020.
3) Background:
Thurston EDC is the regional economic development organization. Through a
Service Provider Agreement, Tumwater funds both regional economic
development activities, such as the Economic Development Alliance and the
Confidence Index, and also supports Tumwater-specific work that has
included staffing the Innovation Partnership Zone, participation in business -
specific recruiting and retention, involvement in the Craft Brewing and
Distilling Center, and convening the Mottman business group. The proposed
agreement renewal for 2019-2020 is updated to reflect the more mature
status of the craft brewing and distilling projects, the active status of the City
Economic Development Plan Update, and the decreasing desire to participate
in the ICSC Retail Conference. Staff has found the EDC to be a reliable
partner in economic development activities.
Michael Cade, EDC Executive Director, will be present at the meeting and
can speak to the partnership with the City.
